Saturday 13 April 2013 saw round three of the Bank Windhoek Namibian National Series. The Omakwara event held on the Hennes farm in the Witvlei district had 82 entries. The event was co sponsored by Caterhire, Stitch Witch and AB Construction.

With a fun race included in this event this category saw 11 competitors gaining exposure to the sport. In its pursuit to grow the sport the Namibian Enduro Club thought that this would be an ideal venue for first timers to gain experience in the sport and the track did not disappoint. In the open national class Henner Rusch took his third straight victory while Kai Hennes came in second just two minutes behind him.

Lichtenstein Enduro results

Shannon Rowland
Round two of the Bank Windhoek Namibian National Enduro Series attracted 75 riders lining up to battle it out on the race track at Farm Lichtenstein last Saturday, 16 March 2013.

The race track on the farm belonging to the Rusch family provided serious challenges for competitors and saw exciting riding for the big number of spectators, with its narrow riverbed, big rocks and other obstacles.

In the National Class, Henner Rusch put on a good display and won his second consecutive race in the series, while Heiko Bernstein won the Quads Class.
The young Julia Moths put on a great show and won the Ladies Quads Class. However, a fierce battle is set for this class for the rest of the season.
There was a turn of events in the Senior Quads Class when the two main rivals, Fanie Steenkamp and Clinton Hilficker, did not produce good results. Instead, Eben Smith outperformed them and won the class.

The complete results were as follows:

Claude Brendel (KTM) secured victory in the 200cc Class, ahead of Jörn Greiter (KTM) and Sven Schneidenberger (KTM) in second and third place respectively.

In the Open Class, Henner Rusch (Husaberg) won ahead of Ingo Waldschmidt (KTM) and Kai Hennes (KTM) in second and third place respectively.

Heiko Bernstein (Suzuki) won the National Quad Class, while Corne Visser (Yamaha) and Nickle Visser (Yamaha) came in second and third place respectively.

In the Ladies Quad Class, it was Julia Moths who secured the victory ahead of Maike Bochert (Honda) and Shannon Rowland (Honda).

Andreas Brendel (KTM) was the winner in the National Senior Bike Class while Kai Hohmeier (KTM) and Jacques Coetzee (KTM) came second and third respectively.

In the National Senior Quad Class it was Eben Coetzee (Honda) who secured victory over Gary Rowland (Honda).

Pascal Henle (KTM) was the victor in the Support Bikes Class, while Marcel Henle (KTM) and Gerald Heiser (KTM) came in second and third place respectively.

In the Support Quad Class Timothy Castelyn (Yamaha) secured victory ahead of Lotario van Wyk (Yamaha) and Dewald van Wyk (Yamaha).

Dennis Demski (Honda) won the Junior Quads Class followed by Zan-Marie Schonker (Yamaha) in second place and Franco Junius (Yamaha) in third place.

The Farmers, or Class 10, battle was won by Klossie Fourie (KTM) followed by Nicolai Palmherz (Yamaha) and Duhard Wiese (Honda).

“The race track at Farm Lichtenstein has a good balance with great obstacles and good marking. The event was well attended and rider fitness is on the up and the rest of the season looks good,” said Andreas Brendel, chairman of the Namibian Enduro Club.

The next race in the Bank Windhoek Namibian National Enduro Series will take place at Omakwara in the Witvlei District on 13 April 2013.

Enduro series kicks off at Tony Rust

Tony Rust
The first race in the 2013 Bank Windhoek Namibia Enduro Championship Series proved to be too tough for many riders as only 34 out of the 71 entrants managed to cross the finishing line at the Tony Rust race track.

The race, which was co-sponsored by Satcom and Engineering Centre, took place last Saturday, 23 February 2013, at the Tony Rust racetrack.

The course was made up of several obstacles and difficult sections of big boulder river beds and some insane rocky hill climbs, combined with the intense down hills, testing the riders’ endurance.

Competitors needed to follow the route of 42km set out in the hills and valleys around the track. With several check points along the route, competitors needed to swipe their transponder tags and get the ticks from the helmet marshals to prove that they did not deviated.

For the national classes, the riders needed to complete four laps of the track while the support classes had to do three.

Besides the tough course, the low finishing rate could also be attributed to low fitness levels at the start of the season as well as the scorching heat on the day.

In the Namibian Championship, the results were as follows:

In the 200cc Class, Jörn Greiter (KTM) who secured victory ahead of Claude Brendel (KTM).

In the Open class, Henner Rusch (Husaberg) won the race ahead of Ingo Waldschmidt (KTM) with Kai Hennes (KTM) coming third.

Corne Visser (Yamaha) raced to victory in the National Quad Class.

In the Ladies Quad Class, Julia Moths (Yamaha) secured victory ahead of Maike Bochert (Honda).

Therold Murch (Husaberg) won the National Senior Bike Class ahead of Andreas Brendel (KTM).

In the National Senior Quad Class, it was Fanie Steenkamp (Honda) who secured victory over Clinton Hilfiker (Yamaha) and Gary Rowland (Honda) in second and third respectively.

In the Support Bikes, Ruhan Gouws (Yamaha) secured victory ahead of Marcel Henle (KTM) and Pascal Henle (KTM) in second and third places respectively.

In the Support Quad Class, William Smith (Honda) won the race ahead of Lotario van Wyk (Yamaha) with Dewald van Wyk (Yamaha) coming third.

In the Junior Quads, it was Dennis Dembski secured victory on his Honda.

In the Class 10 or Farmers Class, it was RJ Visser (Yamaha) who came in first ahead of Klossie Fourie (KTM) and Morne Fourie (Honda).

“The next race in the Bank Windhoek Enduro Championship Series will take place on the 16th of March 2013 on Farm Lichtenstein, situated in the Windhoek District, followed by another six throughout the year in different areas of Namibia. We invite all Enduro enthusiasts to support these exciting and action packed races”, said Riaan van Rooyen, Head: Corporate Communication and Social Investment of Bank Windhoek.
